How does it work?
1. Request for Downtown Refund (In-Store)
When requesting for tax refund, mention you would like to opt for the Downtown Refund (In-Store) service. This service has a maximum spend limit of $25,000 per transaction. For transactions above the limit, only the standard refund option is available.
At the same time, provide your email address or a working mobile number to the frontline staff to activate Mobile Customer Care (MCC). A notification containing a link to our MCC website will be sent to you. From there, you can track the status of your refunds and check next required action. Each step is customized, based on the purchases you make, with all your transactions handily grouped together for your trip.
2. Receive your money
Provide your credit card or show your Alipay payment QR code to the store staff. You will receive your refund to your credit card within 5 business days or immediately to your Alipay account after the tax free transactions are issued.
In the case of Alipay, to benefit from the service you must have a Huabei account with sufficient credit limit: the account balance needs to be at least equal to the refund amount.
Further, in the case of Alipay, above a certain refund amount, you will receive a request for confirmation on your mobile phone. You will need to enter your payment PIN. If you do not confirm, the service will be cancelled.
You need to be connected to internet in order to receive the payment PIN.
3. Validation by Singapore Customs
Before leaving Singapore, you MUST proceed to the eTRS self-help kiosk to validate your tax free transactions. When departing from Changi Airport, you have the option to complete the Customs validation via the Mobile Validation service found in the Global Blue Shop Tax Free mobile application. Follow the instructions shown on the respective platforms to complete the validation process.
*For credit card refund, the refund amount will be credited to your nominated credit card within 5 business days
If Global Blue does not receive your validated tax free transaction(s) within 21 days of the date of your purchase(s) (15 days for UnionPay), the refund amount will be debited from your account.
The refund will be repaid if the Tax Free transaction(s) are subsequently validated within the time permitted under the eTRS rules.
The cardholder or account holder to whom the refund is to be paid must be the same person who purchased the goods
*Global Blue pays the refund amount within 5 business days, but in some cases, there may be a delay from your card scheme or issuer in processing the transaction on to your account.
