Tips and guidelines for shopping tax free in Germany

VAT rate 19%: general goods
VAT rate 7%: Food, Books and maps, Antiquities and artifacts, Medical supplies (wheelchairs, orthopedical aids, hearing aids)
Minimum purchase amount: 50.01 EUR

Attention: The German government has lowered the VAT in Germany in the period of 1st July 2020 to 31st December 2020 from 19% to 16% and from 7% to 5%.

Who is eligible for Tax Free Shopping?
● If you have a permanent residence in a non-EU country
● If you have a valid long-term visa (over 3 months) for a non-EU country
● If you are older than 18

How to Shop Tax Free

Stamping period: Issuing month + 3 months
Validity of stamped Form: Issuing date + 4 years

Tax Free goods:
Refunds are paid on all goods that are exported in the traveller’s personal luggage.
Non-refundable goods:
● Cars or items for cars (e.g. spare parts, oil, navigation system, car radio)
● Phones with contract/SIM card
