Tips and guidelines for shopping tax free in Austria

Important changes at Vienna airport – September 2021

If the goods are exported in the

  • Check-in luggage: Proceed to the DEV area in terminal 1 or 3 to receive an export validation. Once your goods in your check-in luggage have been validated for export you can receive your refund and proceed to your check in counter.
  • Hand carry luggage: Export validation will be handled by DEV at a DEV counter after passing passport control:
    • in Check-in 3 at transfer gate F05 (Floor 1) and the DEV counter at G gate area (Floor 3)
    • in Check-in 2 at the DEV counter at D gate area and C gate area.

The Tax Free Form can only be stamped by DEV if Vienna is the last airport before leaving the EU.

  • Before check-in, travellers must first receive a proof of export validation by presenting their receipts, tax free forms and goods at the customs counter.
  • All mandatory fields on the Tax Free Form must be completed. Missing information will result in the Form being rejected.
  • Please make sure your Tax Free Form includes: Full Name, Zip code, City, Country and Passport Number.
  • Once you receive your proof of export validation, go to the counters of “Interchange” (located directly next to it at Terminal 1 and 3) to get your refund in cash or credit card.
  • You can also take advantage of our mail-back service by sending your Tax Free Forms, Original receipts and matching QR-codes via our Global Blue Mailboxes located at the airport.

Please make sure that all information provided is correct and that all your forms, receipts and proof of export validations are matching your validated goods.

  • If you have permanent residence in a non-EU country
  • If you are older than 18

Tax Free goods:
Refunds are paid on goods that are exported in the traveller’s personal luggage.
Only car equipment must be sealed and unused.
