On entering Jasmina Vico’s treatment room, the first thing you’ll notice, apart from her warm welcome, is her impressive collection of lotions and potions and tools, like a display from a science lab – an array of glass bottles, neatly lined up, with barely a sign of any plastic packaging.
What’s different from other facial clinics is that there is no menu to choose from. Yes, she offers a variety of treatments, including laser, skin needling, LED light therapy and skin peeling, not to mention her signature VicoGlow facial – but her approach to skincare starts with a deep post-cleansing analysis and a recommendation of what’s best for your skincare needs, to avoid you booking a treatment that isn’t a good match for your individual skin.
After years in the business, Jasmina Vico’s knowledge of skincare is unquestionably remarkable: simply listening to her advice is inspiring in itself. You leave not only with the best skin, but also feeling as though you’ve invested in your skin and its particular needs. You also learn how food and diet play a key part in your skin’s health – but you don’t leave with a long shopping list of products. There’s no sign of the hard sell that some therapists try to push post-treatment.
Describe the Jasmina Vico approach to skincare in five words.
Honest, kind, high-tech, science-based, a problem-solver.
Why do you combine holistic and laser technology to create transformative skin treatments?Investing time to truly understand the lifestyle and skin condition of the individual is fundamental to my practice and allows me to tailor treatments accordingly.
Why is it so important to have a thorough consultation pre-treatment?
I need to assess the client’s skin in person – no amount of emails and online discussion can compare to seeing the skin in real life. My intuition and expertise take over at that stage and I get a feel for the person standing in front of me. I instinctively know how this client lives, which is a very special talent I have refined over the years in this industry! I use a 360-degree approach, inside-out, to establish skin concerns.
How would you describe your signature VicoGlow facial?
My focus is the health of the skin as opposed to aesthetics. However, one aspect doesn’t exclude the other. By understanding deep-rooted concerns I can achieve results that are truly long term and that form the fundamental canvas for all treatments yet to come. I specialise in an array of treatments, including custom laser, skin needling, LED light therapy, skin peeling and my signature facial, VicoGlow, which in essence sums up my professional philosophy. VicoGlow is about the youthful glow and the radiance to which we all aspire, with an understanding and passion for different skin types. Embracing individuality and trying to enhance features is what I believe in.
How do your facials differ from others in London?
I treat every skin differently and advise on lifestyle choices as a whole, making the link between lifestyle and skin.
I don’t push products, I push ingredients and educate on what the skin needs and what clients should be looking for – and, most importantly, I educate on returning the skin back to health. Once the skin is healthy you can achieve much more effective results, and once clients are educated on the basics, they achieve better skin, which results in feeling better, and instantly shows in a glow on the face.
Which ingredients and products do you love using?
I use cosmeceuticals that are backed up by science and I have been doing this for many years because they are still the best and produce tangible results. I am also an advocate of natural products, as these also feed the skin.
What is your beauty routine? Do you have any favourite treatments you swear by?
It depends on the time of the year. My skin routine is Vitamin C, hydration and sun protection, meditation, sleep, supplements, a balanced diet and exercise, and intermittent fasting.
I love face massages. Human touch is important in face treatment, to deliver healing properties, as well as chemicals released by our brain, such as oxytocin, the bonding chemical. And, obviously, any treatment that delivers long-lasting results.
I like to simplify things. My golden rules are: less is more; take off your make-up and let your skin breathe; sleep well and nourish your body; be kind to yourself and others.
What are the biggest beauty myths you’ve come across?
We are all aware that there are thousands of cosmetic and beauty products on the market, all with different and potentially harmful ingredients, especially used in combination on the skin. I tend not to prescribe or work with these brands in general – overuse can harm the delicate balance of the skin, leading to sensitivity and irritation. My only exception is a great suncare brand I have personally tried and tested. With my knowledge and expertise, I would recommend a far simpler, yet effective, routine. Often less is more. This is my motto!
What is the most popular treatment you perform, and the treatment you like to perform the most?
Laser treatment is the most popular, and microneedling. I love doing all the treatments, to be honest.
How do you see the beauty industry in the future, in terms of how technology is redefining it?
Make-up is becoming more of a mask or a 3D mask -therefore, the concept of beauty and the beauty industry will be defined differently in terms of the looks and beauty ‘tribe’ where you find yourself belonging. Aside from this sift in the role of our face, I believe that home gadgets and high tech equipment will play a fundamental part in skin health and beauty.
What are the top skincare tips you share with your clients?
What’s next for Jasmina Vico skincare?
I'm always looking to try and link knowledge, research and innovation in order to focus my skin services further but also people and neuroscience. The potential of artificial intelligence, Stem Cells in terms of longevity as well as IV drips are especially areas that I’m keeping a close eye on.
