As would be expected from a high-street store’s high-fashion collection, the styles on the runway at Topshop Unique were directional, innovative and infinitely wearable.
Alexa Chung, Poppy Delevingne and Anna Wintour were all in attendance to marvel at a collection that was much more sophisticated than those presented in previous seasons, featuring utilitarian shapes, military details and an olive green and grey colour palette. Feminine touches were pleasantly juxtaposed with harsh, masculine exterior clothing; a pair of playful printed dungarees was teamed with a grey singlet, heavy black boots and a studded belt, while light metallic mini dresses were hidden beneath heavy jackets and full-length military-style macs.
Standout pieces included a long sheepskin biker jacket thrown over a khaki T-shirt dress and a maxi shirt dress with patchwork pockets and rolled-up sleeves. Hair and beauty were appropriately grungy to suit the overall look; long layers were roughly parted in the centre and teamed with pale foundation and dark smoky eyes. A mix of wool and leather made for interesting combinations; a heavy orange cross-print polo neck was worn with loose leather trousers and aubergine midi skirts were trimmed with patent leather panels.
