Sass & Bide’s Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton are known for producing some of Fashion Week’s most wearable collections and their spring/summer 2013 offering was no exception. Inspired by a recent trip to Peru and Buenos Aires, the dramatic monochrome colour palette and mix of sharp tailoring with more relaxed silhouettes reflected the diverse, and often contrasting, culture of modern South America.
Further contrast came from showing masculine suit jackets and tailored shorts alongside feminine feathered skirts and metallic embellishment. Evening gowns had a gladiatorial edge with cut-out metallic chest plates and statement silver shoulder pads looking like a high fashion take on a suit of armour. Splashes of mandarin orange broke up the otherwise ethereal eveningwear, while the finale looks summed up Sass & Bide’s appeal, showcasing head-to-toe sequins that looked both sophisticated and subtle.
