After last season’s ethereal collection, Christopher Kane explored his darker side for autumn/winter with a collection that veered from Gothic to punk to glam rock, all presented on a purple catwalk.
Attracting an A-list front row including Samantha Cameron, Alexa Chung, Laura Bailey and Yasmin Le Bon, Kane captivated with his violet prints, shimmering in metallics that almost created an optical illusion as they moved down the runway. Purple was the most prominent colour, seen in full skirts, cut-out dresses and boxy jackets and shown in graduated tones from a deep violet to lilac. Added edge came from pliable leather trims, which added punkish attitude to hems and framed daring cut-out waists, while more casual looks saw cosy cable-knit jumpers thrown over floral slip dresses.
The finale presented a contrasting blood-red theme, again Gothic in tone and paired with leather accents, while the standout outfit harked back to last season’s appliqué florals, this time set against a black velvet background and given a metallic sheen.
