For its 25th-anniversary show Antoni & Alison wanted to acknowledge its past but also look to the future, and this charming collection both played to the label’s strengths and had a fresh quality that was the perfect start to the new season in London. Simply cut silk shift dresses acted as blank canvases for the designers’ imagination as hand-drawn designs in a rainbow of colours ran amok.
Motifs were varied; lilac butterflies, strings of diamonds and English country-garden florals were combined with angrily scrawled black lines and orange herringbone. It was the perfect combination of elegance and eccentricity, luxurious in its use of silk but also displaying a childlike exuberance with its paintbox prints and neon eyeshadows. The marching band providing the show soundtrack added a touch of grandeur to proceedings, heralding in a new era for a label that is never afraid to reinvent itself.
