The metropolitan surroundings of London’s Dover Street are certainly a long way from Italy’s Amalfi Coast, but spend a few hours at QP LDN and you might just be convinced otherwise. The restaurant’s design is perfectly in keeping with Dover Street’s reputation for state-of-the-art, ultra-luxe venues. A stunning modern chandelier hangs above a marbled staircase, which leads downstairs to QP LDN’s private members’ club while, in the restaurant, tables are dressed in crisp white linen and guests are seated in large armchairs.
Two Michelin-starred chef Antonio Mellino presides over the kitchen, turning out a delicious array of fresh, vibrant starters, home-made Italian pastas, grilled meats and Mediterranean seafood. The presentation is second to none, with a starter of squid tagliatelle and cauliflower arriving with decorations of edible peppery flowers and a citrusy orange dressing.
A simple and unfussily presented dish of linguine with fried courgette and a Parmesan sauce was also immaculately seasoned and utterly delicious. More substantial mains include sliced beef rib-eye or grilled chicken with rosemary potatoes and green beans. Leave room for one of QP LDN’s delectable desserts – the warm orange tart with bitter chocolate ice cream was a highlight, encased in faultless pastry and thoughtfully garnished with lemon balm.
