As of today, Italian fashion label Mauro Grifoni will have its very own concession in London’s famous department store Harrods.
This is the first time the brand has been available to buy in Britain, and the collection is exclusively available in the UK at Harrods. The womenswear collection is elegant with a playful edge, and makes beautiful use of colour and print. To celebrate the brand’s launch in London, Globalblue.com caught up with creative director Ilaria Sesso to talk about fashion, personal style and the new collection.
How would you describe the Mauro Grifoni aesthetic?
The Mauro Grifoni womenswear aesthetic is all about timeless, authentic style, classic versus rock, easy-to-wear laidback luxury mixed up with boy-girl, sporty, funky attitude.
What kind of women do you design for?
I love to dress myself and create my personal style, and the fact that I’m not a follower means that I value everyone’s personal style. I particularly like the style of Alexa Chung, Lou Doillon and Jane Birkin.
How do you feel about British style?
When I was a small kid, I was influenced by my father who had a perfect British gentleman’s style. I love to mix the British style with Italian fashion.
What is your favourite piece from the autumn/winter 2013/14 collection?
Definitely the checked coat.
Where do you go when you’re in London?
The Groucho Club, the Electric, Dover Street Market or Harrod’s. I also love walking by the Thames where my sister, Claire Forlani, lives.
What makes Mauro Grifoni different from other brands?
We are clearly an Italian brand, but we have our eye on global trends, and mixed influences come together in our designs.
