Set in the heart of Fitzrovia, Meraki Bar has become Londoners’ new food venue of choice for a fix of Greek cuisine based on the finest-quality ingredients that the city has to offer. Meraki Bar is the latest offering from partners Alain Dona, Adam Bel Hadj, Laurent Manuel and Peter Waney, who have a host of top-class restaurants under their belt, including Zuma, Roka, Coya, La Petite Maison, the Arts Club and Oblix at the Shard.
Meraki Bar transports you to Greece with decor that oozes Mediterranean sophistication; it has plush velvet seating, a marble-top bar, exposed brickwork and brightly painted walls. The look is enhanced with greenery such as cascading florals and climbing vines. A white pelican, the official mascot of Mykonos, takes pride place in the Meraki Bar logo.
With a wide selection of Greek wines and tempting cocktails (Black Swan with vodka and passionfruit is our favourite), this is a perfect place for post-shopping drinks. There’s a hidden private bar downstairs with an invite-only policy ‒ it’s a celebrity favourite, with a secret side door entrance. You’ll also find two private tables cleverly built into enclosed caves.
The restaurant offers hot and cold Greek mezze dishes, fresh seafood and classic yet modern Greek dishes such as charcoal-grilled lamb chops with baked aubergine and hummus, and lamb croquettes. Be sure to leave room for dessert; the traditional bougatsa pie is a taste sensation and certainly worth the 25-minute cooking time.
For Greek cuisine and expertly crafted cocktails with a special twist, there is no other place to spend an evening in the capital.
