Charlotte Beecham’s creation Charlotte Simone is rapidly becoming the go-to accessories brand for celebrities, stylists and editors alike. Her line focuses on fur and faux fur designs in the form of scarves, bags and hoods. We caught up with the designer to ask her some questions.
Where is your favourite place to shop?
It has to be Paris, the city that inspired me to start Charlotte Simone. The beauty of the city undeniable; it’s hard to resist the urge to wander, smile and spend!
Which is your favourite item from the AW14 Charlotte Simone collection? And which item should every girl have in her wardrobe?
Probably my black-and-white-tipped Popsicle scarf. The classic nature of the colours allows it to work with just about anything in your wardrobe. I sling it on daily with my fluffy black bomber and jeans.
Any hints about what will be appearing in your AW15 collection, due to launch in August?
I was recently inspired by a trip to Tokyo, so expect a very cute Kawaii-style collection coming your way. Lots of kitsch colours and prints inspired by the fun schoolgirl stripes that seemed to litter the streets.
Who are your favourite British designers?
It has to be Mary Katrantzou and Sophia Webster right now – I just love their talented use of print, texture and colour. You can find their work scattered across my office mood boards.
You studied in Paris; how does Parisian style differ from London style?
My experience in Paris was all a bit dreamy. I should also note that I was a student so I’m sure that added to the experience! Paris life seemed a great deal more glacial then my London life. I was often daydreaming on street corners, watching the beautiful women, style and city views.
You’ve lived in Paris, New York and London. What is special to you about London?
London is my home town and I certainly missed it. London style really resonates with me; I love the daring nature of the women and men out there. I also love the humour, wit and sarcasm – you just can’t find it anywhere else. My sausage dog and I were ready to return to big green parks and home-cooked meals from my mum! I really value my time away from London; I feel it really gave me the opportunity to stand on my own two feet and provided the determination to start my own business.
Your scarves have been seen on the likes of Olivia Palermo, Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung. Is there anyone else you’d love to see wearing your designs?
Lena Dunham is my ultimate girl crush. I would love to spot her in Charlotte Simone.
What three items do you think should be in every girl’s wardrobe?
A Charlotte Simone piece, of course, alongside a great leather jacket and a slim-fit pair of denim jeans.
