Located in the heart of London’s theatreland, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon offers dramatic entertainment in its own right. The Covent Garden restaurant is part of famous French chef Joël Robuchon’s fine-dining chain, which has outposts in far-flung locations such as Macau, Bangkok and Las Vegas. The London branch, fitted out in glossy black with red seats, spans three floors and features a bar and a secluded rooftop terrace. Opt for a table at the counter which surrounds the open kitchen and watch as the chefs prepare a gourmet meal to remember.
Executive head chef Xavier Boyer deftly oversees the kitchen, producing modern French cuisine using the best ingredients possible – a generous serving of caviar from Sologne here, a plump Scottish lobster there. Customers can choose from an impressive six menus, including the daily set menu, much loved by theatre goers for its crowd-pleasing dishes such as veal paillarde with seared artichokes and Parmesan, or spiced roasted duck breast with daikon millefeuille. The sublime tasting menu offers either five or eight courses. Dishes include some of the restaurant’s signature offerings, including perfectly poached egg enveloped in rice batter and served with caviar, followed by quail stuffed with foie gras, which arrives with a side of unbelievably smooth and creamy mashed potatoes.
