We’ve seen a flurry of new watch releases over the past couple of months, due not only to the new season but to the recent worldwide watch exhibition Baselworld, held in Switzerland, which has just closed after another successful year.
With the biggest names in watchmaking all attending Baselworld, it has become the place each year to announce the latest watch designs and innovations. For the watches of the future, this year watchmakers looked to the past as many referenced vintage pieces from their collections. Rolex reissued six new designs based on its 1963 Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona; Harry Winston launched the fourth edition of the Histoire de Tourbillon and Blancpain took a trip back to the 1950s and reworked its Fifty Fathoms diver’s timepiece.
It wasn’t all retro revival, though: Burberry unveiled The Britain collection; Swatch premiered the Sistem51 and Chanel celebrated its 10th year at Baselworld by showing new styles of its J12 White watch.
