La Portegna creates simple yet stylish handcrafted designs in leather and canvas, and its functional products include bags, cases, slippers and small leather accessories.
The company was founded in Madrid in 2009 by José Urrutia after he discovered a photo album belonging to his grandmother, which documented her travels by ship between the UK and India in the 1930s and 40s, including trips with the author Ernest Hemingway. Urrutia often visits the store in the Salamanca district to talk to customers about the collection.
All La Portegna products are created with the modern traveller in mind and are handmade by artisans in the south of Spain, with an emphasis on the use of local and natural tanning oils. The canvas weekend bag pictured is a limited edition and will be an ideal companion for your next trip away.
