Porto is better known for its beverages than its stores, but in fact the city has a thriving shopping scene. From an antique dealer you just have to visit to Porto’s coolest menswear concept store, here are five stores in the city that should definitely be on your list.
Livraria Lello, founded in Porto in 1906 by José and António Lello, is one of the oldest bookshops in the world and is housed in an impressive space constructed by engineer Francisco Xavier Esteves. Luxurious and opulent, with red carpets, sweeping staircases and full-height shelves, Livraria Lello has been an inspiration for many acclaimed authors. Over the years this peaceful library space has also hosted social gatherings and performances. Its historic neo-gothic aesthetic makes it a rare architectural gem of national importance, and a visit should be on everyone’s itinerary.
