Like denim, animal print is a fashion staple that can be worn with almost anything. But, just as double denim is only for the brave and sartorially gifted, there are a few rules to follow when wearing animal print.
First, don’t mix your animal prints; wearing leopard spots with zebra stripes will never work. Second, keep colour to a minimum – pick your shades from the print itself. Third, choose one item to work an outfit around.
Here, we’ve chosen a leopard-print pencil skirt from Burberry autumn/winter 2013/2014 as our base to build upon. You could easily team this with a pair of black stilettos, a silk vest and a black jacket to make it suitable for the office, but we’ve chosen to take a more casual direction by pairing it with a black sweater by Mango and a pair of knee-high wedge-heeled boots by Louis Vuitton.
Finish the outfit with a statement necklace by Swarovski or earrings by Vivienne Westwood and you’ve got a perfect mix of classic style and this season’s trends.
