Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele has become famous for his dramatic runway shows, with the setting as striking and flamboyant as the collections themselves. For the Gucci Cruise 2020 collection show, Michele took its audience to his native Rome. Set in the Capitoline Museums, said to be the oldest public museums in the world, the event was a dialogue between the past and the present. Models walked among some of the most fabled treasures from ancient Rome, wearing pieces that represented almost every era and movement, from Roman togas and religious habits of Roman Catholic nuns to 1980s disco ensembles and Micky Mouse motifs. Freedom of choice was a key message in the Gucci Cruise 2020 collection, with items of clothing adorned with the slogan ‘my body, my choice’. Others pieces featured female reproductive organs, a message that seems more pertinent in the current climate. As always, Gucci’s accessories played a big part in the collection, with tiaras, helmets, lace gloves, sunglasses and, of course, a range of covetable bags. The most noteworthy new Gucci accessory? A Gucci guitar case. Take a look at 20 of the best Gucci Cruise 2020 looks here.
