A shockingly bright fuchsia pink look opened the Versus show and was very much a sign of what was to come. An almost neon custard yellow and bold rainbow colours followed, and it quickly became apparent that Christopher Kane was all about having fun this season. While the shapes were fairly simple – shift and skater dresses, skinny pants and biker jackets – the other elements of each outfit were anything but. Bright colours clearly weren’t enough for Kane, who also used clashing polka dot prints, string overlays and cunningly hidden cut-outs to add even more childlike charm to his designs. In a playful twist on the latest Versace collection, which featured aggressive chain details for spring/summer 2013, Kane opted for brightly coloured plastic chains for the Versus collection which he innovatively used in every way possible – made into tops and skirts trimmings, used as collar details on dresses and worn as jewellery. We’re not sure about a chain reaction, but this collection is definitely provoking a positive reaction from the Versus customer, who loves nothing better than a fun, youthful party dress.
