If one product is synonymous with Tod’s then it is the driving loafer. The Gommino style, one of the brand’s first models following its 1978 launch, has become a global icon. While the classic leather style, with 133 rubber studs in each sole, remains a best seller, each year Tod’s reinvents, redesigns and rethinks the timeless loafer style to make it ever more exciting.
For autumn/winter 2018/19, the Gommino itself has received not one, but two makeovers. Taking inspiration from the pebbled sole, the first of these features tonal studs across the upper of the shoe, as well as a fringed front for an even more flamboyant look. The other winter-ready incarnation of the design is covered with cosy sheepskin alongside the traditional suede; ideal for the low temperatures of a European winter.
While the Gommino remains the most recognisable design, Tod’s range of loafers is ever expanding. For a dressier alternative, a smart velvet pair with silver hardware makes an excellent choice, or opt for a casual design with chunky rubber soles for ultimate comfort as well as a style statement. The latest addition to the collection is a range of backless mules in elegant ribbed velvet, which are a perfect option for day or night.
