On Saturday Milan enjoyed a close-up view of the new menswear collections from iconic British heritage label Burberry. The Come Rain or Shine collection picks up where Burberry’s autumn/winter collection left off, with the introduction of summer colours. Accessories relating to the British weather, such as the umbrellas seen on the autumn/winter 2012 runway, are long gone. Next season highlights Christmas metallics by moving them into the summer season with a hint of 80s retro vibe.
Male models including Burberry’s campaign models walked the runway in electro-bright metallic bomber style jackets in colours ranging from green and petrol blue to summer yellow and neon orange. Burberry’s staples, such as trench coats and sharp tailoring, weren’t forgotten, but, for a modern edge, collars and shirts featured metallic colour changes, creating a more daring evening look.
The spring/summer runway shows introduced more colour and prints to menswear to stand out from the norm and Burberry has continued this trend, using this season’s colour blocking. Outerwear from coats to trousers came in a variety of block colour shimmering metallic tones, creating a vibrant party feel for the summer sun. To balance this vibrance, accompanying items were in muted tones of navy, khaki and beige, showcasing the brand’s signature classic style.
Accessories included contrasting metallic sunglasses with matching bags and sandals, showing that colourful menswear is here to stay.
