The February shows in Milan always feature an array of enviable items for any new-season wardrobe and autumn/winter 2019/20 was no exception. From Prada’s oversized totes to Bulgari’s micro clutches and from Jil Sander’s refined ladylike box bags to Moschino’s ever-popular novelty offerings, handbags were certainly strong contenders for the accolade of the item of the season.
However, with this being autumn/winter, outerwear also had a large part to play. Agnona’s soft cashmere offering was elegant as ever, Max Mara developed a new fabric for its teddy bear coat and the leather trenches at Tod’s are sure to be investments that last a lifetime.
When it came to footwear, the standout items were definitely at two very different ends of the scale. Casadei’s diamond dust heels, made with actual diamonds, were hard to ignore, while Sergio Rossi’s chunky statement trainers with removable ruffles were also winners.
Whatever ends up on your shopping list for autumn/winter 2019/20, the catwalks of Milan are a brilliant place to start it.
