Always theatrical and with a mad-cap theme, the Moschino show is one of the most anticipated on the fashion week schedule. The audience has come to expect the unexpected, with themes for the show coming from the most unlikely of places. With previous sources of inspiration including Barbie, SpongeBob SquarePants and McDonald’s, Moschino has become synonymous with kitsch.
For the Moschino autumn/winter 2019 show, Jeremy Scott looked to the glittering game shows of the 1990s. Programmes such as Wheel of Fortune and The Price Is Right were the inspiration for the stunning event, which featured Dynasty-esque gowns and ultra-kitsch accessories such as bags shaped like champagne bottles and cash registers, and accessories themed around grand prizes. Gambling paraphernalia, dollar bills and studded plastic rhinestones were all re-occurring motifs, confirming Game Show Couture as one of the most Instagram-worthy collections to date.
