The de Bijenkorf department store in Utrecht completes its four-year retail expansion with a renovated store, a retail area increasing in size from 9,000 to 15,000 square metres, more than 100 new brands, and a host of new departments, including a designer-led womenswear floor
As de Bijenkorf grows its Utrecht retail space from 9,000 to 15,000 square metres, we explore the store’s new additions and highlights.
The introduction of The Kitchen
Phase one of the redevelopment focused on the second floor and the opening of The Kitchen, an experimental restaurant overlooking the charming, typically Dutch city. The renovated rooftop floor also houses a new childrenswear department, a click-and-collect counter, a wine boutique and a kitchenware shop. The dining experience is modelled on the successful unit in the de Bijenkorf flagship department store in Amsterdam. The open-plan restaurant can seat 320 diners, offers views of the city, and is the ideal spot for a quick coffee or a hearty meal if you’re looking for a break while you’re shopping. On the menu, discover specialities from Utrecht alongside traditional Dutch food. The area also has a play corner for children and offers charging stations and free Wi-Fi. The ground-floor City Café is also a great place for a pause.
The largest menswear department in Utrecht
The next phase of the store renovation focused on the expansion of the menswear department to 4,000 square metres, with 50 new fashion brands, 43 shoe brands and a Hugo Boss shop-in-shop. The charismatic, dynamic new retail space offers a wide range of tailored and casual fashion pieces for men, alongside footwear, sneakers, sportswear, accessories and luxury leather goods. All styles are catered for.

The world of cosmetics
When it comes to beauty and skincare, the new beauty hall in Utrecht has tripled in size and is a store highlight.
