Sündhaft on Reichenbachstrasse has an impressive selection of perfumes and cosmetics. Haltbar on Pestalozzistrasse is great for unique men’s and women’s fashion, while Sévigné on Theatinerstrasse has some beautiful, Munich-made jewellery. The best pralines in town are at Sama-Sama on Westenriederstrasse.
And your favourite restaurants?
Makassar is a cosy place on Dreihmühlenstrasse, with great French cuisine. Bussone, on Gotzinger Platz, has very good traditional Italian food and outdoor dining in summer.
Do you have a favourite local café or pub?
Hoover & Floyd in Ickstattstrasse, for its organic food. Don’t miss the chocolate cake!
Where do you take out-of-town friends?
First stop would be ice cream at Ballabeni on Theresienstrasse, then for a drink on the roof terrace at the Mandarin Oriental on Neuturmstrasse – it has stunning views.
Where do you like to celebrate?
Tantris, at Johann-Fichte-Strasse, is only for very special occasions. Order the daily five- or six-course menu with the sommelier’s wine selection. It has awesome food and service, stunning 70s architecture and even a free shuttle to take you home.

I walk almost everywhere.
Any advice for visitors?
The Biergarten in summer – you can bring your own food if you want.
