German artist Carsten Nicolai is known for his mathematically-minded, minimalist aesthetic. His clean lines, sharp style and pristine polish match the artistic, elegant look that Cos has made accessible on the high street with its subtle but interesting drapery, bright and uncomplicated colour and pure shapes. This season, Nicolai brings together art viewers and artistic dressers by installing a Schatten Loop sculpture at Cos’s Berlin branch, which resembles a classic gallery setting. The design recalls his 1998 sound-and-shadow Tape Loops work, which consisted of tape ribbon moving against mirrored surfaces. Many of Berlin’s gallery-goers sport Cos at vernissages; Nicolai transforms the artfully arranged shop interior into a gallery in its own right.
