Venerable watch brand Blancpain has revealed its latest addition to the Fifty Fathoms timepiece collection with the first model to be housed in a titanium case.
Launched commercially in 1954, Fifty Fathoms was the first modern diver’s watch. Designed for professional diving, the timepiece included key practical and aesthetic features, from broad luminescent hour markers and hands to the black dial and unidirectional rotating bezel, as well as water-resistance to 300 metres and protection from magnetic fields. Famous for its robust construction, the watch quickly became popular outside of the professional diving community.
This year, Blancpain has released the 2019 model – an elegant new addition to the Fifty Fathoms collection. It has retained the main original technical and aesthetic characteristics, and been updated with a robust titanium case to make it the lightest version yet. Taking design cues from contemporary styling, the watch sports a ratcheted unidirectional rotating bezel fitted with a scratchproof domed black sapphire insert, while the Super-LumiNova coating on the markers and hands ensures visibility even below the waves. Over six decades since its launch, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms collection continues to impress even the most discerning customers and the latest release is sure to be a much-coveted addition in 2019.
