Back in September 2018, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, announced the opening of Allée Sonia Rykiel, in honour of the late fashion designer Sonia Rykiel. This marks the first time a street in Paris has been named after a fashion designer. Located in the Left Bank in the Saint-Germain des Prés vicinity, the street was where Sonia Rykiel used to shop for groceries and is just a stone’s throw from where she opened her first shop.
In celebration of the momentous occasion, the brand has released a series of limited-edition tote bags called Allez Rykiel. Not only is this a fitting tribute to the designer, but an Allez Rykiel bag would make a wonderful souvenir of Paris. Created out of recycled tarpaulin, the style is inspired by the traditional striped tarpaulins of the market where the designer used to shop. A perfect souvenir from Paris, the Allez Rykiel tote is one of the top bag styles from the spring/summer 2019 collections.
