Sportswear is always a big feature in Stella McCartney’s collections; it’s something close to her heart, as could be seen in her designs for the Team GB kit for the London 2012 Olympics. For spring/summer 2013, while her collection still had a definite sporty edge, it was more relaxed and feminine. Drop crotch slouchy trousers and sheer shirts were balanced with girly dresses resting just on the knee; many had splits and sheer detailing, too.
A dose of McCartney’s brilliant tailoring – she definitely hasn’t forgotten her Savile Row roots – kept things from becoming too laidback and pulled the collection together neatly. As a change from the predominately dark spring/summer 2013 collections we’ve seen so far, McCartney injected colours such as grass green and vibrant citrus orange. Black still featured quite heavily, along with white; however, neither felt moody or too contrived. This was a collection that was carefree and very easy to wear.
