There was a glimpse of what to expect from Stella McCartney’s autumn/winter collection during London Fashion Week, when she hosted a dinner at which models including Yasmin Le Bon, Shalom Harlow and Amber Valletta, who had been quietly sitting at their tables throughout the evening, flashmobbed the event, dancing on tables and showcasing McCartney’s latest silhouette-defining designs.
Stella McCartney’s show in Paris sees the full collection make its debut. Oversized coats and slouchy trousers – a continuing trend in Paris this season – were punctuated with shots of hot pink and electric blue. Tweed trousers and short bomber jackets were complemented by skater skirts and dresses, which kicked out but still retained the sleek overall look of the collection.
The waist again became a focus as the eye was drawn to the centre of each piece by the lines created by the graphic blocking of McCartney’s tailoring, as seen on dresses first showcased in London. Hints of white flashed through each look in a symmetrical, swirling leaved pattern, a collarless shirt or on the platform soles of pointed-toe shoes. McCartney again strikes the right balance between strong and elegant in this standout collection.
