More wearable than previous seasons, the spring/summer 2013 collection at Maison Martin Margiela was very much focused on chic eveningwear, with long, almost shoulder-length gloves as the key accessory. Bandeau dresses with a square fishtail-style hem were shown in simple shades of slate grey, black and nude. This pared-down palette allowed the collection’s technical design features to shine; extremely sharp square necklines and sexy sweetheart necklines were seen in abundance, and, although exaggerated, were still very wearable for Maison Martin Margiela.
The classic Margiela tent-like shapes were there, seen in T-shirt maxi dresses that were the ultimate in summer cool, and the label’s cheeky side was also apparent in a top twisted into an oversized bow. Whether or not this collection gives a hint of what is to come from the H&M collaboration remains to be seen. However, it seems likely that we can expect bold statements, a simple colour palette and exceptional design.
