Show Report: Maison Martin Margiela Spring/Summer 2012

An endless runway was set up along the docks of the River Seine to accommodate Maison Martin Margiela’s spring/summer 2012 collection. Sizzling temperatures meant this show was no easy task for those models who wore wore long leather skirts and wool capes. Some were wrapped in dresses embroidered with carpet motifs and swathed in plastic tops, showing off MMM’s radical sense of adventure. However, not all pieces were as experimental. Plenty of open backs that revealed bare skin offered a welcome contrast. Deconstructed tuxedo pieces, some sleeveless, all enjoyably fluid, made for avant-garde evening attire.
