Descending from giant escalators, the Louis Vuitton models arrived on the catwalk at the spring/summer 2013 show with a pop of colour and walked down the yellow-checked runway in schoolgirl-like pairs, complete with matching bows in their hair. The look was very bold and very bright, in yellows, greens and monochrome. Shapes were clearly 60s-inspired and everything from pea coats and mini dresses to bra tops and twin sets was covered in big checks and graphic flower prints.
The midriff was a focal point for Marc Jacobs this season. It peeped out of jackets and above skirts; there were even some extremely small belly-revealing tops that showed off a lot of flesh and will surely only be worn by the braver members of the fashion crowd. There were, however, a lot of wearable pieces; the simple playsuits and pea coats are sure to become bestsellers, as are the new-season accessories, which include a checked version of the classic Speedy 25 bag.
