Never one to shy away from attention, Jean Paul Gaultier takes us back to New York in the 80s with his eclectic and urban autumn/winter collection. Everything memorable from the 80s can be found in the new collection, including a major twist on punk rock. The collection features urban casuals, oversized fur coats in bright colours, quilted jackets, leather skirts and biker jackets. To further emphasise the powerful return of the 80s, some of the models had leather jackets slung over their shoulders, reflecting the decade’s ‘girls with attitude’ mode.
The various and numerous jackets in the new collection are likely to prove popular, along with the skirts made up of deconstructed biker jackets. A more flamboyant and carnival vibe is showcased in the brighter pieces, such as the neon fur coats, the statement print streamlined dresses and the cigarette pants. The mix-and-match punk rock collection showed off Gaultier’s adventurous and fun side; after 35 years in the industry he clearly has no plans to slow down any time soon.
