While the autumn/winter 2018/19 haute couture collections paid tribute to the art of couture in its traditional, purest form, this season designers played with fabrics and cuts to give a modern reflection of couture. The 80s has inspired many ready-to-wear collections, and the sartorial decade filtered through the spring/summer 2019 haute couture collections. Schiaparelli, Giambattista Valli and Givenchy all used tropes associated with the era, from mini dresses at Giambattista Valli to latex leather at Givenchy. Evening gowns were once again the highlights of many collections and many showstopping dresses are bound to have caught the attention of the Oscar nominees. Take a look at the highlights of the haute couture spring/summer 2019 collections here.
