Where were you born?
Where do you live now?
In the 10th arrondissement around the Canal Saint Martin, the very heart of Paris’s Right Bank. The neighbourhood is very lively and bohemian. It’s where working class meets young hipsters, a gritty heritage with a soundtrack of coffee cups and designer prams. It’s a little village with a very international feel. I love this mix.
If money were no object, where would you live?
LA or NYC.
Which city is your favourite shopping destination?Stockholm is very compact and well-arranged and full of nice fashion and design. Antwerp is great for flea markets, furniture and edgier fashion. Zürich is where I always find what I’m looking for.
Which are your favourite Paris stores?
Ra for its Belgian sense of fashion, Red Wheelbarrow for its cuteness and good selection of English books and, of course, Guerrisol for its huge piles of vintage clothes.
Do you have a favourite local café?
Bob’s Juice Bar gets me going in the morning. Green juice, muesli, the best in town, and a cup of filter coffee – happy, healthy, friendly and good.
Where do you take out-of-town friends?
To the Marché des Enfants Rouges on rue de Bretagne – it’s a weekend hotspot for international food stands, with my favourite Japanese bentos.
Where do you like to celebrate?
Harry’s Bar for the best old-fashioned American cocktails in town. They’re pricey but if you’re celebrating you’d better do it in style. The cheaper option would be Stolly’s Irish pub in the Marais – loud music, friendly folk and homespun art.
Do you have a favourite Paris walk?
I always enjoy the Parc des Buttes Chaumont for its romantic, surreal architecture. Walking along the Seine always makes me happy too.
Which is the best landmark in Paris?
The Montparnasse tower, for the best view over Paris you could wish for.
What insider tip would you offer for exploring Paris?
Walk along the old railways from the 12th arrondissement to the Bois de Vincennes. Or go to one of the many car boot sales.
Where do you most like to travel for inspiration?
Towards the sun or to some buzzing city.
What can’t you live without?
A cappuccino in the morning.
