It’s a curious fact that the renowned French luxury leather goods company Longchamp began as a tobacco store. Jean Cassegrain was already selling leather items for smokers and created Longchamp in 1948 to develop this side of the business.
The company later extended its range to small leather goods such as wallets and pouches for men and by 1955 the brand had branched into luggage; its first boutique was opened at 390 rue Saint-Honoré. With over 60 years of experience, the company remains family run and is perhaps best known for its Le Pliage bag ‒ this foldable fabric tote with leather handles has become an iconic product all over the world.
Longchamp has recently set up collaborations with designers including Jeremy Scott to produce limited-edition versions of Le Pliage, ensuring that there is always another item on every customer’s wish-list. Visit Longchamp’s store on rue Saint-Honoré to see the full collection.
