Renowned for its exceptional crystal glassware, Lalique has established itself as the ultimate brand that symbolises French luxury living. It has recently expanded its hotel and restaurant portfolio, opening Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey in southern Bordeaux in summer 2018. Complete with Lalique art deco-style furnishings, the sumptuous property offers visitors a place to unwind and enjoy the finest food and wine in the most picturesque of settings. It is set in its own vineyard and, of course, all its 13 bedrooms offer a vineyard view.
This has been a painstaking creation; it took four years to transform the château (some of which dates from the 13th century) into the hotel. The result is a spectacular building in which many original features have been carefully preserved, and with old and new furnishings offering clever contrast. Attention to detail is second to none, with Lalique crystal embellishments throughout the property.
Under the direction of chef Jérôme Schilling, the restaurant offers exquisite cuisine, and in January 2019 it was awarded a Michelin star. Everything is carefully thought through, from the sourcing of local ingredients (such as from a farmer who specialises in growing tiny vegetables) to the way the dishes are delivered to the table. The bar is perfect for a pre-dinner aperitif. We highly recommend the signature Sweetz cocktail, the perfect aperitif combining the vineyard’s sauternes wine with fresh orange peel and ice – it’s a winning mix.
For those wanting to explore the Bordeaux countryside in the fresh air, there are electric bikes to borrow. Be sure also to tour the magnificent vineyard and cellars where you’ll learn about the process of making the wine and see a wine barrel created in Lalique crystal. All in all, if you’re wanting an exceptional luxury break, Lalique’s Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey offers a truly sybaritic experience.
