Where were you born?
In Sweden, in a little town called Varberg. The nature there was inspiring, with a lot of herbs and flowers growing wild, and the ocean, which inspired me to explore sciences. When I was 15 we moved to Viitasaari, a little town in the middle of Finland, which had a totally different nature and social spirit. Viitasaari and nature became my biggest inspirations for creating fragrances and cosmetics and they still are. I love the lakes and nature; every summer I find new sources of inspiration for my unique scents.
Where do you live now?
In Helsinki. I really love the social life and the spirit of this city. Many things inspire me at the moment: fashion, people, cultural events, music, and nightlife. At the same time I can’t forget the importance of Nordic nature, which is the biggest source of my creative inspiration.
If money were no object, where would you live?
Maybe half of the year in Paris – it would be a big source of creativity, inspiration, and new perspectives. To be honest, I prefer to live in Finland; this is the country where my heart belongs. Of course the winter is awful, cold and dark, but after the winter time you appreciate the summer more.
Which city is your favourite shopping destination?
Definitely Paris! You find so much trendy fashion there, especially shoes.
Which are your favourite Helsinki stores?
Stockmann has a wide collection of fashion, cosmetics and everyday items. I also respect design shops such as Artisaani, Jonk Galleria on Aleksanterinkatu, Kiasma, Ateneum, Design Forum Finland and many small boutiques and brands. I usually prefer small shops to support the entrepreneurs.
Do you have a favourite local café?
My favourite cafés are near my home. I often go to Kakkukeisari; they have nice customer service and good coffee.
Where do you take out-of-town friends?
Usually to gay nightclub Hercules, sometimes to DTM for nice music, colourful people and a nice spirit.
Where do you like to celebrate?
Finnish traditions are important to me, so in the summertime I like to go to the countryside and rent a cabin surrounded by lakes and nature. Then we barbecue, have a nice time, listen to music, dance, go to saunas and swim.
Do you have a favourite Helsinki walk?
I like to walk the streets of Ullanlinna, where I can do some window shopping on the way home.
Which are the best attractions in Helsinki?
I like Senaatintori (Senate Square) and Kauppatori (Market Square) because of the atmosphere and architecture. I also enjoy the great view from Ravintola Torni.
Which do you think are the best museums in Helsinki?
The Ateneum and the Finnish Museum of Natural History.
Which person from Helsinki do you most admire?
I admire and respect Mert Otsamo for his huge talents in fashion design. He does what he wants and his creations are incredible. I see him as a Finnish Karl Lagerfeld. I like people who have courage, mental strength and who fight for their dreams, create new things, and walk their own ways without caring what the people around them say.
What insider tip would you offer for exploring Helsinki?
Helsinki has a very liberal atmosphere.
Where do you most like to travel for inspiration?
To the Finnish countryside, especially the centre of Finland, which is beautiful in the summer. And of course Paris is very inspiring.
What product or place can’t you live without?
Nature is very important to me. If we are talking about products there is nothing so important to me that I couldn’t live without it. The most important thing is your health. When you are healthy you always have strength to fight for your dreams, but if I have to answer something – then black hair dye.
