Marimekko, one of the best-loved Finnish design brands, known for its original prints and bright colours, was established in 1951. To celebrate World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 Marimekko has launched the Marimekko Village. Armi Ratia, the founder of Marimekko, first thought of the ‘Mari-village’ in 1962 – the original was built to house the company’s staff and function as a design workshop. The 2012 Marimekko Village concept offers numerous events and activities in Marimekko spaces in Finland and internationally. Marimekko has also launched the Marimekko map of Helsinki, illustrated by Marimekko designer Aino-Maija Metsola. The map explores the special features of the main Marimekko locations in Helsinki and their cultural heritage. This is a unique opportunity to explore the world of Marimekko and its inspirations. Other events in the Marimekko Village for spring include Marimekko’s summer fashion show, events, talks and factory tours.
