Just a short stroll from the city centre lies the mini village of Spittelberg and a Christmas market offering a cosy and homely feel. Split across three small avenues – Gutenberggasse, Schrankgasse and Spittelberggasse – the well-known festive market offers a calm and relaxed atmosphere, away from the bright lights of the city centre, with arts and crafts, entertainment and 100 shopping stalls.

Experience the nostalgia of Christmas in spectacular style with a visit to Vienna’s largest and most popular magical Christmas market. It is located in the heart of the city on Rathausplatz, in front of the city hall, and visitors can enjoy stalls offering unique Austrian treats across food and drink, including Christmas punch and roasted chestnuts, souvenirs and handicrafts. Suitable for the whole family, the market also has an entertainment programme of festive-themed events and an ice rink, turning into a brightly lit winter wonderland after dark.
18 November-1 January: Kultur und Weihnachtsmarkt Schloss Schönbrunn Christmas and New Year’s market
The festive market to end the year and start a new chapterOpen daily, this large Christmas market, in front of the historic Schönbrunn palace, is a hub for Christmas-themed activities and events until 26 December, and finishes with a spectacular New Year’s Eve week of jazz concerts from 27 December to 1 January. The annual event offers visitors the chance to enjoy Austrian foodie delights including gingerbread and sweet chestnuts, alongside a cup or two of hot punch and mulled wine. Shop traditional handicrafts and limited-edition products licensed by the Schönbrunn Edition.
