Tommy Hilfiger travelled to the heart of Paris for its experimental TommyNow fashion roadshow in collaboration with American actress Zendaya.
The TommyXZendaya debut
For spring 2019, the contemporary fashion label enlisted American actress and new global brand ambassador Zendaya for a striking new collection. Inspired by icons of the 70s and by the 1973 Battle of Versailles show, the fashion debut focused on strong and powerful looks of 70s American pop culture, with a dynamic catwalk showcase complete with iconic supermodels across all ages.
Behind the star-studded show
Held at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the powerful showcase of supermodels across more than four decades took to the catwalk in 70s-themed fashion, with added American charm and charisma. The 70s-themed collection adds a fresh new dimension to femininity, with a young, free-spirited aesthetic reminiscent of the cool vibes of the 70s era.
Guests enjoyed a retro-revival ambience, with a 70s disco, arcade games and a pop-up store for the see-now-buy-now collection immediately shoppable after the show. The show opened with a 70s-themed party song and dance, with 70 roller skaters taking to the illuminated disco runway signalling the arrival of TommyXZendaya for spring 2019.
Iconic supermodels of the 70s to the present day
Catwalk stars included models who revolutionised the fashion world: Pat Cleveland, the world’s first black supermodel, who also walked the 1973 Battle of Versailles show, and Beverly Johnson, the first African-American supermodel to appear on the cover of Vogue USA. The models were joined by actress and model Beverly Peele and by Veronica Webb, the first African-American female to ink a deal with cosmetics giant Revlon. Top supermodels of the 90s Brandi Quinones, Chrystèle Saint Louis Augustin and Debra Shaw also took to the stage, with fashion icon, disco queen and 80s pop star Grace Jones closing the star-studded show with a disco-themed final walk.
In keeping the TommyNow showcase fresh, contemporary and accessible, top models of the moment Jourdan Dunn and Winnie Harlow joined the supermodel collective alongside rising models Anita Marshall, Carissa Pinkston and Thais Borges.
The collaborative collection for spring 2019 brings Zendaya’s young, fresh and confident sense of style to the new Tommy Hilfiger era.
