Why did Global Blue debit my credit card?中文版/ Русская версия

You have made purchase abroad and you have applied for an early refund service.  After receiving your refund amount in advance (prior to sending the validated and fully completed Tax Free Form to Global Blue), Global Blue reserves the right to debit your credit card, if one or more of the below conditions of early refund service are not fulfilled:

  • Customer needs to obtain a valid customs validation (stamp/ e-validation).
  • Customer must deliver validated Tax Free Form to Global Blue and the form needs to be received by Global Blue within 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex card holders)/ 15 days (UnionPay card holders) of the refund date.
  • Tax Free Form must be correctly filled out by customer and it must contain all mandatory information/attachments and contact details.


Please send your validated Tax Free documents by mail to Global Blue to ensure that your account is re-credited.

If you need further clarification about the debit process and want further assistance on next steps, please contact our Customer service.  

Please note that the debit amount may differ from your refund amount due to a debit fee included.

 

Where can I use Tax Free Shopping Services? When and how will I receive my refund?


1. At the airport, I got a refund to my Credit Card

Global Blue offers refund for your Tax Free Shopping purchases to your credit card at our Refund Offices.

This service is available in the following countries.

Global Blue supports only the following credit cards:

Visa Credit Card
Visa Debit Card
Visa Electron
MasterCard Credit Card
MasterCard Debit Card
UnionPay Credit Card
• UnionPay Debit Card

Diners
Amex
JCB

You will receive refund in your local currency.

In case of Visa, MasterCard or Diners, refund will be transferred in the currency, in which your credit card is issued.

In case of JCB card, your refund will be credited in Japanese Yen (JPY). JCB will make conversion to the currency in which your credit card is issued.

In case of UnionPay card and Amex, it will be credited in US Dollars (USD). UnionPay / AMEX will make conversion to the currency in which your credit card is issued.

For non-cash refunds in a currency different than the currency in which the Tax Free Form (“Form”) is issued, the current Global Blue ”we sell” rate (based on the “we sell” rate of a recognized European Retail Bank) plus 3 to 5 %, will be applied for the currency conversion.

You will receive your refund within 5 days after submitting your Tax Free documents with export validation customs stamp at a Refund Office.

Processing time for a credit card company is excluded.

2. At the airport, I got a cash refund

Global Blue offers refund for your Tax Free Shopping purchases to your credit card at our Refund Offices.

This service is available in the following countries.

You will receive refund in the currency of the country where the Refund Office is located.

For non-cash refunds in a currency different than the currency in which the Tax Free Form (“Form”) is issued, the current Global Blue ”we sell” rate (based on the “we sell” rate of a recognized European Retail Bank) plus 3 to 5 %, will be applied for the currency conversion.

Global Blue reserves the right of choosing the appropriate refund method in exceptional cases at its reasonable discretion.

Please note that at some Refund Offices an additional fixed fee per Tax Free Form may be applied in case of collecting cash refund.

3. I mailed my forms back to Global Blue to get a Credit Card or Bank Account or Bank Cheque or Alipay refund

Global Blue offers refund for your Tax Free Shopping purchases to your credit card, bank account, or in the form of bank cheque.

This service is available in the following countries.

Global Blue supports only the following credit cards:

Visa Credit Card
Visa Debit Card
Visa Electron
MasterCard Credit Card
MasterCard Debit Card
UnionPay Credit Card
• UnionPay Debit Card

Diners
Amex
JCB

Global Blue can also transfer refund to your Alipay account.

Refund can be transferred to bank accounts issued in euro area and Denmark, Norway, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

Global Blue can issue bank cheques in the following currencies: USD, HKD, JPY, GBP, SGD and CHF.

In case of Visa, MasterCard or Diners, refund will be transferred in the currency, in which your credit card is issued.

If you want to receive your refund to your Alipay account, it will be credited in Chinese Yuan (CNY) .

In case of JCB card, your refund will be credited in Japanese Yen (JPY). JCB will make conversion to the currency in which your credit card is issued.

In case of UnionPay card / Amex, it will be credited in US Dollars (USD). UnionPay / AMEX will make conversion to the currency in which your credit card is issued.

Your bank account will be credited in your local currency.

Global Blue processes refund payments to bank accounts issued in the following countries in euro: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.

Bank accounts issued in following countries are accepted for refund paid in local currency: Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and United Kingdom.

For non-cash refunds in a currency different than the currency in which the Tax Free Form (“Form”) is issued, the current Global Blue ”we sell” rate (based on the “we sell” rate of a recognized European Retail Bank) plus 3 to 5 %, will be applied for the currency conversion.

The currency of your bank cheque is determined by your residence country. Residents of countries, where the currency is not supported will receive bank cheques issued in USD.

You will receive your refund within the following timeframes after receipt of your completed Tax Free Form with export validation customs stamp and original receipt / invoice (according to local Rules and Regulations) by Global Blue:

3 weeks for refunds sent to credit card, or bank account;

3 weeks for refunds sent in the form of bank cheque;

10 days for refunds sent to Alipay account.

Processing time for a credit card company or bank is excluded.

4. I got a cash refund in person at a Downtown Refund Office or at retail store

Global Blue offers refund for your Tax Free Shopping purchases before exporting your goods outside the country of purchase at Downtown Refund Office.

This service is available in Austria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom.

You will receive refund in the currency of the country where the Refund Office is located.

For non-cash refunds in a currency different than the currency in which the Tax Free Form (“Form”) is issued, the current Global Blue ”we sell” rate (based on the “we sell” rate of a recognized European Retail Bank) plus 3 to 5 %, will be applied for the currency conversion.

Global Blue reserves the right of choosing the appropriate refund method in exceptional cases at its reasonable discretion.

Don’t forget that our Downtown Refund Office will ask you for your credit card as guarantee,  which is needed in case your goods are not exported within 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) / 15 days (UnionPay card) of the refund, or you don’t get export validation customs stamp when you depart.

Deliver your completed Tax Free Form with export validation customs stamp to Global Blue within 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) / 15 days (UnionPay card) of the cash refund date.

Please note that if the procedure is delayed past 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) / 15 days (UnionPay card) or not completed, your guaranteed credit card will be debited the refund amount, plus 15% of your refund as debit fee.

Debit fee can’t be paid back.

5. I got a refund to my Credit Card/ mobile wallet in a retail store

Global Blue offers refund for your Tax Free Shopping purchases to your credit card/ mobile wallet before exporting your goods outside the country of purchase directly in affiliated Stores.

This service is available in Austria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom.

Global Blue supports only the following credit cards:

Visa Credit Card
Visa Debit Card
Visa Electron
MasterCard Credit Card
MasterCard Debit Card
UnionPay Credit Card (issued in mainland China only);
Alipay with Huabei account.

You will receive refund in your local currency (currency in which your Visa and MasterCard is issued).

In case of UnionPay card, it will be credited in US Dollars (USD). UnionPay will make conversion to the currency in which your credit card is issued.

If you want to receive your refund to your Alipay account, it will be credited in Chinese Yuan (CNY) .

For non-cash refunds in a currency different than the currency in which the Tax Free Form (“Form”) is issued, the current Global Blue ”we sell” rate (based on the “we sell” rate of a recognized European Retail Bank) plus 3 to 5 %, will be applied for the currency conversion.

You will receive your refund within 5 days of your purchase. Your Tax Free Form will be printed at the time of purchase, and that Form will confirm your refund to credit card/ mobile wallet. Processing time for a credit card company is excluded.

 Don’t forget to:

Obtain export validation customs stamp according to local Rules and Regulations;

Deliver your completed Tax Free Form with export validation customs stamp  and original receipt / invoice (according to local Rules and Regulations) to Global Blue within 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Alipay) / 15 days (UnionPay card) of the date when you made your purchase and received your Tax Free Form.

Please note that if the procedure is delayed past 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Alipay) / 15 days (UnionPay card) or not completed, your credit card will be debited the refund amount.

6. I got a refund immediately in a retail store

Global Blue offers refund for your Tax Free Shopping purchases before exporting your goods outside the country of purchase directly in affiliated Stores.

This service is available in France, Italy, Spain, UK.

You will receive refund directly at the time of your purchase. The refund amount is subtracted from the sale price, so you are refunded immediately when you make your purchase.

Don’t forget that a Store will ask you for your credit card as guarantee,  which is needed in case your goods are not exported within 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) / 15 days (UnionPay card) of the refund, or you don’t get export validation customs stamp when you depart.

Global Blue accepts the following credit cards as a guarantee:

Debit fee can’t be paid back.

7. I returned to the store on a later trip for a cash refund

Global Blue offers refund for your Tax Free Shopping purchases in cash in affiliated Stores.

This service is available in France, Italy, Spain, UK.

You will receive refund directly at the time of your purchase. The refund amount is subtracted from the sale price, so you are refunded immediately when you make your purchase.

Don’t forget that a Store will ask you for your credit card as guarantee,  which is needed in case your goods are not exported within 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) / 15 days (UnionPay card) of the refund, or you don’t get export validation customs stamp when you depart.

Global Blue accepts the following credit cards as a guarantee:

After getting your refund you will be obliged to:

Please note that if the procedure is delayed past 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) / 15 days (UnionPay card) or not completed, your guaranteed credit card will be debited the refund amount, plus a debit fee up to 15% of your refund amount.

Debit fee can’t be paid back.

8. I got a refund in Bahamas or Japan

Global Blue offers you the option to purchase your goods less VAT at affiliated Stores. The deducted VAT is your refund. It is automatically deducted from the purchase amount.

This service is available in the Bahamas and Japan at selected stores.

You will receive refund directly at the time of your purchase as a subtraction from the sale price, or at the refund desk located in Store.

9. I got a refund in South Korea

Global Blue offers an immediate refund for your Tax Free Shopping purchases at time of purchase.

This service is available in South Korea according to local laws.

You can receive refund in KRW automatically at time of purchase, as a deduction from the sale price.

Don’t forget that this service is available at limited number of Korean merchants.

Maximum sales amount for 1 item purchased at 1 merchant can’t exceed 200000 KRW. Total sales amount for all the purchases made during 1 stay in South Korea can’t exceed 1000000 KRW per traveller.

10. I visited France / Italy / UK and got a refund in a retail store

Global Blue offers refund for your Tax Free Shopping purchases before exporting your goods outside the country of purchase directly in affiliated Stores.

This service is available in France, Italy, UK.

You will receive refund directly at the time of your purchase. The refund amount is subtracted from the sale price, so you are refunded immediately when you make your purchase.

Don’t forget that a Store will ask you for your credit card as guarantee,  which is needed in case your goods are not exported within 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) / 15 days (UnionPay card) of the refund, or you don’t get export validation customs stamp when you depart.

Please note that if the procedure is delayed past 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) / 15 days (UnionPay card) or not completed, your guaranteed credit card will be debited the refund amount. In case you made purchases in France and Italy, a debit fee will be charged as well. In France the debit fee is 5% of the refund amount. In Italy the debit fee is set as 10 EUR per Tax Free Form.

What will I see on my bank account / credit card statement?


1. Your refund is paid successfully to your credit card /  bank account

You opted for Immediate Refund to Credit Card,  Mailback Refund, Fast Refund.

Global Blue transferred refund amount in the currency in which your Visa, MasterCard or Diners card is issued.

If you want to receive your refund to your Alipay account, it will be credited in Chinese Yuan (CNY) .

In case of JCB card, your refund will be credited in Japanese Yen (JPY). JCB will make conversion to the currency in which your credit card is issued.

In case of UnionPay card / Amex, it will be credited in US Dollars (USD). UnionPay / AMEX will make conversion to the currency in which your credit card is issued.

You opted for Downtown Cash Refund,  Early Cash In Store, VAT OFF (France, Italy).

Global Blue needs to claim your refund back as the service rules and conditions are not fulfilled at this moment.

After getting your refund you were obliged to:

Obtain customs stamp according to local Rules and Regulations;

Deliver your completed Tax Free Form with export validation customs stamp and original receipt / invoice (according to local Rules and Regulations) to Global Blue within 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Amex) / 15 days (UnionPay card) of the refund date.

Please send your original Tax Free documents by mail to Global Blue to re – credit your account.

Please note that a debit fee was implied and it can’t be paid back.

3. Your refund is reversed from your credit card/ mobile wallet

You opted for Fast Refund, VAT OFF (UK).

Global Blue needs to claim your refund back as the service rules and conditions  are not fulfilled at this moment.

 After getting your refund you were obliged to:

Obtain customs stamp according to local Rules and Regulations;

Deliver your completed Tax Free Form with export validation customs stamp and original receipt / invoice (according to local Rules and Regulations) to Global Blue within 21 days (Visa, MasterCard, Alipay) / 15 days (UnionPay card) of the date when you made your purchase and received your Tax Free Form.

Please send your original Tax Free documents by mail to Global Blue to re–credit your account.

4. Your refund is re–credited to your account

You opted for Downtown Cash Refund,  Early Cash In Store, Fast Refund, VAT OFF (France, Italy, UK).

Global Blue claimed your refund back as the service rules and conditions  were not fulfilled initially.

After having processed your Tax Free documents, Global Blue transferred successfully the refund amount to you.

Please note that a debit fee can’t be paid back.

Obligatory Customs Stamp

Where and how do I obtain customs stamp? I missed to get customs stamp when leaving to my home country. How do I receive my refund?


Customs stamp is obligatory to get refund with Global Blue Tax Free Shopping. It proves that you exported goods from the country of purchase to your home country.

REMEMBER : NO CUSTOMS STAMP = NO REFUND


Getting export validation customs stamp
Where? Get export validation customs stamp at your point of departure (airport or border crossing).
When?

Get customs stamp when leaving directly to your home country, at your last point of departure from the tax region.

If you’re travelling within the EU, get customs stamp on your Tax Free Form at the final point of departure from EU.

How?  

Under ordinary flights operations, Customs officers are present at the airport;

Check local Customs website to learn about precise location and opening hours of the Customs office at your airport;

In some countries, an authorized agent acts on behalf of Customs (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Norway and Sweden). For more details check local Rules and Regulations on Global Blue website.

Provide your unused purchases in original package to Customs officers;

Present your completed Tax Free Form, receipts, passport and purchased items to Customs officers to get customs stamp;

In some countries (Argentina, Cyprus, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy, South Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Singapore, Sweden, Uruguay) you can get digital export validation customs stamp. Check local procedures as instructed directly at the destination airport.
