Eat

Merchants Tavern
Set in the atmospheric surroundings of a former Victorian warehouse in Shoreditch, Merchants Tavern is leading the charge as gourmet dining continues to move east. The restaurant’s all-star culinary cast, including chef Angela Hartnett and the team behind Canteen, has created a seasonal menu that takes inspiration from French, Spanish and Italian cuisines, albeit served with a British twist. The menu is regularly updated but typical offerings include Gloucester Old Spot pork belly with roasted cauliflower and savoy cabbage and roast quail with foie gras and a hazelnut pesto.

Do

Comfort Zone Active Pureness facial
If November’s winter winds are taking their toll on your skin, be sure to try the new Comfort Zone Active Pureness facial at Holborn’s Ena salon. The facial is suitable for all but is especially effective for those suffering imperfections. After a relaxing ritual, thorough cleanse and neck and shoulder massage, a cooling mask is applied, which simply peels off your skin. It leaves your face feeling fresh but without the astringent tightness often associated with deep cleansing. The result gives you the confidence to face the world without make-up

The Hideout at Gingerline
A clandestine dining concept popping up in secret locations in East London, Gingerline has rapidly become a word-of-mouth culinary phenomenon. Its dining locations are all set within easy reach of the East London Overground line but diners don’t find out exactly where they will be heading until an hour before the event begins. Its most recent project is called The Hideout and although any further details have been kept a closely guarded secret diners can expect to find flamboyant artistic performances, creative cocktails and a gastronomic experience that they will be sure to remember.

Stay

Malmaison London
A New York-style boutique hotel set in the leafy streets of Farringdon, the newly relaunched Malmaison London has an innate sense of style. Each of the 97 rooms features stripped floorboards, feature wallpaper and bespoke furnishings. Every bed is made with high quality Egyptian cotton sheets and feather pillows. Creative flair emerges in the common areas: murals by street artist Xenz provide an urban edge while golden tree branches wind their way around the corridors to reflect the North London location. Be sure to dine at the hotel’s restaurant, which specialises in New York strip steak.
