Covent Garden is famous for its top restaurants and eateries and from the end of July will sport a new food hotspot. Located on Aldwych, Lundenwic is an all-day speciality coffee shop offering honest, healthy food. Using fresh ingredients and with dishes made in-house where possible, the menu features seasonal produce such as salads with courgette, asparagus, kohlrabi, peas, curd and red chilli as well as sandwiches with porchetta, salsa verde, fennel and mint. Sweet treats will also be available: highlights include freshly baked pecan pies and flourless chocolate cake.
British heritage brand Burberry has expanded its global flagship on Regent Street this summer to create an exclusive area dedicated to gifts and an all-day café called Thomas’s. The new gift area is the ultimate destination for Burberry’s personalised presents with everything from blankets to stationery and travel goods that can be customised, embossed and adorned. The new café provides welcome rest from a day of shopping and offers an entirely British menu of classic dishes and afternoon tea.
RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
Situated in one of the UK’s top attractions, the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show is a horticultural event not to be missed. This year the flower show celebrates its 25th anniversary in style. Get inspiration from the impressive show gardens, buy plants in the Floral Marquee or relax and enjoy afternoon tea in the Palace Garden Room.
Top UK brow and eyelash service brand Blink has unveiled its flagship store in Notting Hill this month. The new store on Ledbury Road offers a full menu of treatments with everything from threading to manicures, making it the new go-to beauty hotspot in London. The brand has also collaborated with juice company Roots & Bulbs to design its own Brow Wow juice.
Bompas & Parr and Moët Ice Impérial experience at Madison
Head to the rooftop bar at Madison this summer for Moët’s Ice Impérial summer party. The nautical themed pop-up will showcase the world’s first Champagne created to be served over ice, along with bespoke ice experiences from Bompas & Parr. Guests will have the opportunity to stamp personalised ice cubes while taking in impressive views of London.
Those looking to invest in some summer jewellery should make a beeline for the new pop-up Georg Jensen boutique in prestigious Burlington Arcade. The pop-up will showcase the spring/summer collections of signature gold and silver jewellery as well as vintage silverware, gifts and leather accessories. The boutique will act as a beautiful, temporary space ahead of the brand’s relocation to Mount Street later in the year.
1 July: Aer blow-dry bar
Head to south west London’s latest blow-dry bar, Aer, this month for some summer pampering. The new blow-dry bar has a menu of 13 blow-dry styles including big, loose waves, fishtail braids and sophisticated up-dos. Enjoy added treatments ranging from eyebrow shaping to scalp massages, which are perfect preparation for night out.
1 July: Skinnydip flagship
Carnaby Street is famous for its retro boutiques and youthful shopping vibe and now the shopping hotspot has a new destination. Accessories brand Skinnydip opens its first retail store here this month, with two floors dedicated to the label’s collections of handbags, purses, tech accessories and headphones. With regular music and art events scheduled in-store along with exclusive product releases, the new boutique is a must-visit.
2 July: Audrey Hepburn exhibition
This summer the National Portrait Gallery will celebrate the life of actress and style icon Audrey Hepburn (1929-1993). A selection of more than 70 rarely seen prints by leading photographers will be shown along with a selection of vintage magazine covers, film stills and archive materials. Covering many facets of the fascinating story of Hepburn, from her early years as a chorus girl to her philanthropic work in later life, this is one of London’s most covetable exhibitions.
2-5 July: Balthazar 4 July pop-up
Celebrate American Independence Day in style over the weekend of 4 July with Balthazar’s brunch party. The famous Covent Garden restaurant will serve Bloody Mary pitchers, decadent hotdogs, special cookies and macaroons. Outside the restaurant, the team will also be manning a pop-up all-American stall selling traditional American sandwiches.
8-12 July: Krug & Chips
Tom Sellers, who runs Michelin-starred restaurant Story, is putting an indulgent spin on traditional British fish and chips at his summer pop-up in Covent Garden this month. The chef has partnered with champagne brand Krug and is offering guests dishes such as lobster claws wrapped in spaghetti, and monkfish cheek curry with matchstick fries. Dishes with a glass of Krug Grande Cuvée are priced at £35.
11 July: Carnaby Street Eat
Street food is currently the food trend of the moment, with countless vendors popping up over the capital. Head to Carnaby Street on 11 July to sample a selection of the best at a vibrant street food festival. More than 30 food stalls and trucks will offer in excess of 30 global cuisines, with al fresco dining areas, live music and demo kitchens providing top summer entertainment.
24 July: ABQ cocktail pop-up
The long-awaited and highly-anticipated Breaking Bad-inspired cocktail bar opens in London this month. Located in an RV, it offers guests scope to ‘cook’ their own cocktails with chemicals in a lab set-up with the help of expert mixologists. Tickets for the first three months are sold out, but dates may be extended due to extremely high demand, so be sure to sign up.
25 July: Eid
Eid, the Muslim celebration that marks the end of Ramadan, transforms the capital on 25 July. Trafalgar Square will be at the heart of the festival with live music and performances, world foods and family activities.
