As the Fashion Week season draws to a close, we take a look back at the top emerging trends for spring/summer 2016, as seen in New York, London, Milan and Paris. There was a new mood of romance across the four cities as many designers shunned an androgynous aesthetic for a softer, more feminine take on fashion, with beautifully soft tailoring, romantic ruffles and pretty pleats coming to the fore. The spring collections also revealed an age of innocence, inspired perhaps by the recent surge in the younger ‘Instagirl’ supermodels taking the catwalks by storm. This season, several designers seemed to cater to a younger audience with collections featuring short A-line skirts, pretty chiffon dresses and charming patterned prints. Dare-to-wear trends this season also proved popular, with clashing prints, colours and fabrics appearing on the catwalks in all four cities. While the 1970s dominated this summer, next season is all about the 90s, with silk slip dresses paying homage to the supermodels’ outfit of choice. Discover the top trends for spring/summer 2016 here.
