Frieda Kaplan Gross is the founder and creative director of Noa Fine Jewellery. Having studied at the prestigious Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and inspired by her family’s heritage in the industry, this third-generation jeweller has created one of the UK’s most exciting new jewellery brands. Her latest Diamond Ray collection is a celebration of her favourite gemstone and is at the top of our shopping wish list. Here we speak exclusively to the designer about her new range as well as her experiences at GIA and her future plans for Noa Fine Jewellery.
What do you love most about jewellery?
Jewellery is like second nature to me. I was born into the industry and grew up surrounded by jewellery. I honestly love every aspect of it, especially the heirloom pieces that are passed on from generation to generation.
Which of your jewellery creations is your favourite?
My favourite pieces are the Fleur de Lis earrings. Based on a design that my grandfather created in the 1960s, they are in the shape of a flower that reaches up the ear.
What is your favourite gemstone?
My favourite gemstone is a diamond. It is the hardest and most solid stone that gives great energy and lasts forever.
What did you love most about studying at GIA?
Studying at GIA was great as gemmology is almost like taking maths as well as art. You have all these charts that are very technical yet you must judge a diamond on its appearance, inclusions and colour by feeling, which brings the art influence.
Would you recommend completing some form of formal training for anyone considering launching a jewellery brand?
I honestly believe undergoing training is a must. It is so important to understand every part of the business and feel as prepared as possible.
Tell us about your new Diamond Ray collection.
Radiant and delicate, the new Diamond Ray collection is inspired by the clean lines and geometric shapes of the art deco era. The collection comprises elegant chokers, pendants, earrings and rings that evoke rays moving independently from one another, reflecting light and conveying charm. Each piece is beautifully designed in 18-carat white, rose and yellow gold, and set with brilliant-cut white collection and champagne diamonds.
What’s next for your brand?
The future is bright – we are currently working on extending the bespoke Initials collection which is a collection very close to my heart. I love personalised jewellery as it means so much and makes a great gift.
Who would you like to see wearing your pieces?
Women all around the world who love feeling elegant, strong and feminine.
