‘A usual day for me involves meeting someone for coffee in the morning, then, if the weather’s good, walking through Hyde Park, crossing Park Lane and walking through Mount Street Gardens to the shop.
I get to 5 Carlos Place and work my way floor by floor, to have a mini meeting with everyone in the shop, in production, in finance, in design – then, once I’ve been through everybody’s issues, I’ll maybe meet a client for lunch and walk them through the shop. Any spare moments are devoted to working on the new collection.
‘It’s a nice tight team, 14 of us in total, not including the jewellers who work at their benches on the lower ground floor. We’ve only been at 5 Carlos Place since last summer, but I’ve had a shop since 1995 in Notting Hill or Mayfair since 1995. I got used to the area, having been in Bond Street for three years, and everyone seems to gravitate to the West End at some point during the week, so I’m used to seeing familiar faces. It’s a beautiful area with incredible neighbours.
‘The building is a house, so it feels very homely, and it has the most incredible decorative features: beautiful plaster ceilings, thick oak doors, wood and marble fireplaces and, most beautiful of all, an oak-panelled staircase. I wanted to bring out, enhance and embellish all of the existing decorative features and use colours that make me happy, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.’
