With a cocktail list that offers fiery concoctions such as flaming rum punch infused with Scotch bonnet peppers and a menu that manages to include chips as an essential ingredient in not one but two salads, there’s a lot to like about Rocket. The Holborn restaurant is part of a small chain and occupies a prime location close to the theatres of London’s West End, making it a clever pre-show option.
Rocket’s signature cocktails, including the Baker’s Tarte, a pleasingly sour mix of Mandarin Napoleon, Martell VS brandy, Cointreau, orange curd, lemon juice and raspberry, are thoughtfully made and a pleasure to drink. Starters are full of flavour, whether it’s the classic beef carpaccio with rocket and parmesan, or the chorizo and halloumi kebab, a colourful plate served with mooli, green mango and cucumber spaghetti with a red pepper dressing.
Rocket’s stone-baked pizzas are a definite highlight, made in house using premium Italian ingredients. It’s hard to find fault with toppings like Nduja sausage, cherry tomato and prosciutto with smoked mozzarella or the playful surf and turf flavours of a smoked black pudding, king prawn and pancetta pizza.
