Discover the glamour of the railways at the Great Northern Hotel

Recapturing the glamour of rail travel, The Great Northern Hotel in London’s King’s Cross offers an array of contemporary luxuries in an historic setting

Verity Hogan
Verity Hogan,

One of the country’s oldest railway hotels, the Great Northern Hotel is conveniently situated next to the Eurostar terminal at King’s Cross St Pancras. A perfectly preserved example of Victorian architecture, the hotel was built in 1854 and underwent an extensive refurbishment last year that modernised the building without losing the inherent charm of its original features. The three bedroom types available areå all equally luxurious and equipped with amenities including king or queen-size beds, Malin and Goetz toiletries, Nespresso coffee machines, high-speed Wi-Fi and HD televisions with complimentary entertainment packages.

Every floor features a pantry, where guests can help themselves to hot drinks and a regularly replenished supply of home-made cakes – ideal for a midnight feast. The hotel’s restaurant, Plum and Spilt Milk, is also well worth a visit for its sophisticated menu of dishes based on the finest British produce. Be sure to visit the cosy snug bar for a cocktail before retiring to your room.
